Leo, the lion is an ostentatious, proud, and social sign. They are individualistic and ambitious but loving and sympathetic as well. Often shining when they are the center of attention, Leo’s are ingrained with a natural charm and magnetism.

Leo’s are generous and caring, willing to support others when they are down. A Leo woman won’t want to fuss with too many products, but will wear vibrant, bold colors. The color associations are yellow, gold, red.

Start with your regular foundation routine, if you don’t have one or would like to know more about foundation and concealer, check out of of our other make up blogs, which goes by the process step by step.

For the eyes: Apply an eye shadow primer to the lids all the way up to the brow bone and underneath the eye, (I used “Painterly” paint pot from MAC). This will not only prime the area and make your colors show truer, but it will also brighten the eye area.

Take your lightest shade, (“Collie” from Buxom.) this will be your highlighter, and apply it from lash line to brow bone, and on the inner corners of your eyes.

Take your gold shade, (“Baked” from Urban Decay.) and sweep it in a windshield wiper motion into your crease. If your eyes do not have a crease, just place this where you’d like the illusion of one, and sweep it onto the inner third of the eyelid as well. Next, Take a matte yellow shade, (Make Up Forever “Yellow #2”) and add it to the outer third of your eye lid, just on the outer corners and blend inward.

Apply a basic black eyeliner close to the lash line on the bottom lashes only, I used “Carbon” shadow by MAC, and a liner brush. Take a white or peach liner pencil and line the lower water line on the inside (this will make your eyes appear larger). Then, apply a coat or two of your favorite mascara.

To the apples of your cheeks (the fullest, roundest part in the middle of your cheek), apply a golden pink blush (“Publicist” from Smashbox.) To the tops of your cheeks apply a shimmery highlighter (“El Dorado” from Urban Decay), and to the hollows (where you see shadows when you suck in your cheeks) very lightly apply bronzer to define the shape of your cheekbones (“Aztec” from RawColor).

For the lips use a lip brush (for accuracy) and fill in (“Amsterdam“ from NYX) and that will complete this bold look.

Oh yes ladies you have seen them, you have dated them…oh yes, ah “The Player.” Now, now to be fair woman can definitely be “The Players” too. Now why are they players, that’s the question? Here are the top 10 reasons why the bad boys gone bad or should I say sour. And for those of us who still believe in True Love we thought it only fair to help you out with the top 10 warning signs to stay clear of these stanky stenchers.

Why do players play?
10. Players generally don’t look at their prey as their equal. They see others as lesser beings, and theirs to play with. They know you have feelings, but they don’t care or respect them.
9. Lacking self worth or confidence. The more they conquer the higher they rank themselves. They have also built up the wall, social masonry. Not wanting to show anyone who they really are inside for fear of rejection.
8. Mommy or Daddy syndrome. No one will ever measure up or be good enough.
7. Testing your love, attempting to make lovers jealous makes them feel wanted. Sound like 3rd grade anyone?
6. Punishing future and present lovers for a past lovers rejection or indiscretions. Everyone must pay! Poor little Jonny got rejected by little Susie when he was 14 for having too many pimples, now all woman are Susies to him.
5. Drama mamas, getting someone to fall apart or create a scene over them. In return getting a twisted self-satisfaction, which only temporally makes them feel good.
4. Self absorbed. Me, me, me, me. Any questions?
3. They need to have control, so that they are in charge of the rejection or acceptance. You must play by their house rules.
2. Pride. Too proud for the relationship.
1. And the number one reason, The Power Trip!

Warnings Signs:
1. They won’t call you by your name. Uses sweetie, babe, and honey a lot. Did they forget which one you are?
2. Does not let you meet their family or friends or does not want to meet yours. Will not take you to their home.
3. Vampire hours, only calls, texts or visits at night.
4. Won’t take you out in public.
5. Never stays the whole night or more than one day. Always in a rush.
6. Inconsistent behavior. Their up their down, their left and their right.
7. Narcissistic, overly concerned with their appearance or looks.
8. Does not make future plans, only short notice.
9. Overly complimentary, lays it on too thick. You’re beautiful, can you have my babies?
10. Always has excuse or reason for all of the above.

Someone once gave me the best piece of advice when I was 18 and just about to move to NYC and I always find myself coming back to it over and over again. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Gemini, the sign of the twins, dual personality. While not intentionally confusing the two sides of a Gemini personality can work against itself or in harmony. This air sign is known for it’s wit and charm. Gemini’s are not focused on beauty but more on spiritual fulfillment.

The nervous energy of a Gemini doesn’t leave much room for make up application, but since people will be focused on the loquacious mouth, it’s important to make sure that pout is perfect!

Make up colors like pink, light blue, and in warmer tones, green or golden yellow will bring out the best in Gemini’. Not one to be afraid of bold colors, Gemini’s don’t take themselves too seriously, because of this they can play with a range of make up.

Take your lightest shade, (“Foxy” from Urban Decay’s “Naked 2” Pallete.) this will be your highlighter, and apply it from lash line to brow bone, and on the inner corners of your eyes.

Take your gold shade, (“Chopper” from Urban Decay’s “Naked 2” Pallete.) and sweep it in a windshield wiper motion into your crease. If your eyes do not have a crease, just place this where you’d like the illusion of one, and sweep it onto the inner third of the eyelid as well. Next, Take a bright Turquoise shade, (L’Oreal loose pigment in “Diva Down”) and add it to the outer third of your eye lid, just on the outer corners and blend inward.

To the apples of your cheeks (the fullest, roundest part in the middle of your cheek), apply a golden pink blush (“Pleasantry” from MAC.) To the tops of your cheeks apply a shimmery highlighter (“Hilight” from L’Oreal), and to the hollows (where you see shadows when you suck in your cheeks) very lightly apply bronzer to define the shape of your cheekbones (“Socal Glow” from Urban Decay).

For the lips use a lip brush (for accuracy) and fill in (“Surprise me“ from MAC) and that will complete this vibrant look.

Learning about Tarot: Death.

RWS_Tarot_13_Death

By: Elly

Card Description:
Death, numbered 13 in most decks, is usually depicted by a skeleton or reaper riding a white horse or on foot, sometimes with the sun or moon rising behind him.

Death is surrounded by dying people of all castes/classes, from commoners to nobility; a woman looks on, distraught by the fall of the king. The reaper often carries scythe or a flag emblazoned with a rose signifying life, set against a gray background, which many think symbolizes uncertainty. A child can sometimes be seen in some versions of the card, which can mean curiosity or

Card Mythos:
Freeing himself from the tree where he was hung, clearing his head of visions, the Fool continues his journey on the road of life. He walks through a field in winter, the trees bare and the fields barren, he feels somehow empty. As the sun rises he comes upon Death, mounted on a white steed. Death stops as the Fool approaches him and the Fool inquires of him, “Am I dead?”, Death tell him that in a way, he is, he has lost his former self and life.

The Fool begins to cry, and excuses himself for this, Death tells him that it is natural to mourn his loss, and he must do so in order to be receptive to new things. The foliage must wilt and leave the trees branches bare before new growth can begin. Death continues on his way and the Fool, considering what he has been told, understands the truth, that he is like the skeleton, stripped down to bone so that a new transformation can take place.

Card Meaning:
Death doesn’t refer to the physical death but instead usually to a major life change, a rebirth spiritually. It can mean an end to something as well, a relationship or a conflict, clearing the path of old issues and making way for a new journey. Death does not discriminate, and there will be sorrow, but it will make way for joy. Querents often fear the Death card, but most of the time it is more a symbol of hope than something to be worried about.

When the death card shows up in a reading, the querent should step back and really think about all the things going on in their life, and tie up any loose ends, and clear away any unfinished business. It’s also a time for re-evaluating one’s routine and goals in life. Now is the time to come to terms with these changes and learn from them. It is a time to move on from any losses and look toward the future.

Card Associations:
Rebirth, inescapable change, transition, sadness, loss, transformation, leaving behind old ways, regeneration, creation, end of a cycle, deep change, good-byes, conclusion, change, spiritual renewal, change or growth, sex, attaining a higher level.

Spring Traditions: Passover

March 28, 2012, 12:00 AM

We’re entering a very celebrated time of year right now. Spring is a time of renewal and beauty, when the earth begins to flourish, the sun is out a little bit more, and the weather paves the way for the heat of summer. Spring is also a time for celebration in many cultures, but we’re only focusing on this week for now. We hope to provide some insight to a few traditions and celebrations coming up this week.

This week we are going to see several celebrations taking place, as we leave the traditional time for cherry blossom festivals, Easter, and Passover. Passover or Pesach is one of the most widely celebrated Jewish holidays. Passover is observed over seven days beginning on the 15 of the Jewish month of Nisan. (This is usually April.)

The first and second nights are celebrated with a ritual dinner, with a third taking place on the Friday during Passover. These ritual dinners are called Seder, Passover Seder is especially important because it is when the story of the Exodus is passed along.

The centerpiece of the dinner is the Seder Plate, which contains The Zeroah or roasted lamb shank bone symbolizes the paschal sacrifice made the night the ancient Hebrews fled Egypt. Some people think this symbolizes the outstretched arm of God (the Hebrew word zeroah can mean “arm”).

The Baytsah or roasted egg is offered as a sacrificial offering to the second temple, it is also said to represent the Hebrew people, you can burn them, but they will only become tougher.

Maror or “bitter herb” is usually horseradish, and the Chazeret, the secondary bitter herb on the Seder plate is carrots or horseradish greens. These are meant to recall the bitterness of slavery in Egypt, and should to help one reflect on their current enslavements, addictions, or habits.

The Charoset, the opposite of the Maror and Chazeret. A sweet salad of apples, wine, nuts, and cinnamon meant to represent the mortar that Hebrew slaves used to build with in Egypt.

The Karpas can be any spring green, though it is most often parsley, used to represent the freshness of spring, and new beginnings, and nobility. in addition, salt water to represent the tears and sweat of enslavement.

Matzah or unleavened bread plays a big part in the story of the exodus. The Matzot (plural) are placed on the table and covered with a cloth. The traditional number is 3, with a 4th added in recent history to symbolize the struggle of those who are not free to celebrate.

During Seder, the story of the ten plagues and the exodus from Egypt is told. The four youngest in attendance will each ask one of the four questions as part of the Seder, which are preceded by the question “Why is this night different from all other nights?”

The four Questions, which follow, are “Why is it that on all other nights during the year we eat either bread or Matzah, but on this night we eat Matzah?” “Why is it that on all other nights we eat all kinds of vegetables, but on this night we eat bitter herbs?” “Why is it on all other nights we do not dip even once, but on this night we dip twice?” “Why is it that on all other nights we eat either sitting or reclining, but on this night we eat in a reclining position?”

Participants usually consume four cups of wine, it is assumed by most that each one corresponds to each of the promises of redemption; “I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you from their slavery, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments. And I will take you to me for a people.” A cup of wine is left out for Elijah, and the front door left open in the hopes that he will join the family in their celebration.

For those of you celebrating this spring tradition, Chag Sameach! In our next post, we’ll take a closer look at Easter.

wheel of fortune
By: Elly

Card Description:

This card shows the wheel of the goddess Fortuna, turning clockwise with people, or animals falling from/climbing it. Atop it there is sometimes perched a sphinx holding the sword of discernment, representing balance in the face of constant fluidity.

It also usually features the word “TARO” and the four suits represented in any given deck; Wands, Cups, Discs/Pentacles, and Swords (all of which can be found on the magicians table). Also of note are alchemical symbols and frequently, Hebrew symbols as well.

According to Wikipedia, The letters on the wheel were intended by Waite to mean “Rota Taro Orat Tora Ator,” which he “translated” (this term used loosely) to: “The Wheel of Taro[t] speaks the Law of Ator [Hathor, or Love]”

In the four corners there will be figures, usually a bull, an eagle, a man, and a lion each having an open book. These will mean different things going by different traditions but they can be viewed as four fixed signs of the zodiac (Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio), the four gospels, the seasons, or the four angels of the apocalypse.

The mythos of the card:

The Major Arcana is also viewed as a life’s journey through the character of the Fool, (which is “zero” in the Major Arcana) and the challenges he will face. This card represents the introduction of random chance into the Fool’s life, which, can hinder or help him. He finds that all the good things he’s done in life seem to be returning to him three fold, reinforcing the concept of “What goes around, comes around.”

Card Meaning:

This card usually represents luck, change, or the Karmic cycle, a turning point. This card also symbolizes movement of fate, unexpected developments, life cycles, possibilities, abundance, and approachability. Usually a sign of positive change, or the end of a bad situation, it can have negative connotations. This will depend on the tone of the reading in general and the reader’s intuition.

Poor becoming rich or vice versa, this card can represent a lesson to be learned about your Karma and objectivity. If the querent is on their way down the wheel then they have to face up to something and learn from that, until they do the wheel will keep finding a way to try to teach its lesson.

The querent must keep an open heart and mind to receive life’s good fortunes, and lessons. The querent’s actions have placed them on the path they are on now, though the wheel injects seemingly random chances or opportunities into their life and they can not control the wheel, ultimately they will be the one responsible for the outcome.

The Vernal Equinox.

March 18, 2012, 12:00 AM

By: Elly

This year, spring starts on March 20, 2012, at 1:14 A.M. (EST) in the Northern Hemisphere. In Latin equinox means “equal night.” This refers to the fact that we have an almost even 12 hours of day and night during the Equinox.

This year the 20th falls on a Tuesday, take advantage of the extra light and take a walk in a park after work, or play outside with the kids, if you have them. The Earth’s axis won’t point toward or away from the sun on this day, which is why we get the nearly equal day and night.

In the southern hemisphere, they will be celebrating their autumnal equinox while we welcome in springs warmer weather and outdoor activities. This day also heralds the coming of spring holidays such as Passover and Easter.

The Equinox can also be a good time to figure out just where due east and west are. When the sun sets on the day of the equinox keep an eye on the horizon and note any landmarks there, this is due west. If you turn 180 degrees from this spot, that will be due east.

After the sunset, why not stick around and enjoy the crisp spring air, and do some stargazing with your loved ones?
