Treats For Your Sweets

Today we bring you mouth watering treats to whip up for your loved one this Valentines Day. Really, you can do these whenever but we found some Valentines day inspired meals or twists to everyday meals you can bring them to let them know you wanted to go that extra mile and make the day a bit more special for them.

Breakfast:

Option 1: I Love Bacon

You’re in the kitchen about to make some eggs, bacon and toast and surprise your partner with breakfast but you are trying to figure out how to make it special and not your everyday eggs and bacon, right? Here’s an idea; take 2 strips of bacon and make them into a heart shape before you put them in the oven. They will hold the shape of the heart as they bake. It will be a cute surprise for when they see it on their breakfast plate.

Option 2: Red Velvet Pancakes

This one takes a bit more time and elbow grease than the eggs and bacon but its equally delicious and might get you more brownie points because you’re putting more time and effort into it. You will need 1 1/2 cup buttermilk, 4 eggs, 4 Tbsp melted butter, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 Tbsp. red food coloring, 2 Tbsp. Cocoa, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/3 cup of sugar 1/2 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp. of salt. Mix your dry ingredients together and set them aside. Then melt the butter in a separate bowl and add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and the red food coloring. Pour the dry ingredients in and beat until smooth. The rest you would cook like you would a normal pancake. To make a heart shaped pancake place a heart shaped cookie cutter on the skillet and pour batter into the cookie cutter and remove the cookie cutter before flipping or when they are finished you can cut them into heart shapes.

Lunch:

Option 1: Grilled Mac and Cheese Sandwich

My mouth is watering just thinking of this. With mac and cheese you cant really go wrong in my opinion, box or homemade I’m not picky. (Bonus points for homemade with different cheeses though). Anyways, to make this simple and delicious lunch you just cook up your mac and cheese regularly according to the recipe on the box or your own recipe and add bacon if you want added yum, butter your bread normally like you would for making grilled cheese then add your mac and cheese to the bread and top with the other piece of bread. Put it on the skillet and brown it on both sides. You can cut the sandwich into heart shapes if you wish before throwing them on the skillet if you wish or you can serve them with sliced cherry tomatoes cut into little heart shapes as a garnish for the plate.

Option 2: Pack Their Lunch

Valentines Day is falling on a Friday this year and let’s face it, we might not get to spend the whole day and night with our partners. If that’s the case then why not pack you loves lunch for them to take to work? It will be a sweet surprise and you can put little notes in there for what they can expect when they get home (example; champagne, special reservations in a secret location, some other sexy surprise). Get creative. You’re still letting them know that you’re thinking of them while you’re both away from each other for the day and that you took the time to make him something special. Plus, you saved him/her from having another vending machine lunch or from having to take time from their work to go get lunch which could make them have to stay late and run into your date night together. You’re so smart!

Dinner:

Do what you want! It’s Valentines Day! You wanna go out? Do it! You wanna order in? Order in!

Dessert:

Option 1: Chocolate Mousse & Chocolate Covered Cherries

Yum. I’ll tell you what, it will be a sweet, sweet death by chocolate if this is the way to go out. Get 1 small box of instant chocolate Jell-o pudding mix, 2 cups of milk, and 1 cup of cool whip for the mousse. The topping is just 1 cup of the cool whip and 1 container of marshmallow creme. Then the finishing touch are the Maraschino cherries with the stems and a block of melting chocolate. Mix the pudding and milk according to the directions on the box then let it sit in the fridge for about 10-15 minutes. Take it out then fold in the cool whip and keep doing so until it’s completely combined. Pour the mousse mixture into glasses about 2/3 full and put back in the fridge while you prepare your topping. Take your 1 cup of cool whip and marshmallow mixture and beat ingredients until they are smooth. Rinse and drain your cherries and then gently pat them dry. Start melting your chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds. You might need to stir it and add additional time to melt if needed. Take a cherry and dip in the melted chocolate and set aside on wax paper until it’s set, repeat this for as many as you are making. Take your mousse out of the fridge and add the marshmallow whipped topping and your cherry.

Option 2: Strawberry Boquet

This one is sweet, beautiful, healthy, and easy as all get out. All you need are a few fresh strawberries, a sharp knife, wooden skewers and a steady hand. Simply take your strawberry and holding it at the thick part where the greens are you want to start making little slivers. You’re going to make about 4 around the thickest part of the strawberry then use your eyes to see how it looks and fan it out accordingly. Keep making slivers in the strawberry up and up and use the tip of the knife to fan out the slivers. then place the strawberries on the skewers and put them in a vase in the kitchen after dinner. Tell your partner that you make them and how you made them and they will get a kick out of it and appreciate the beauty and thought even more!

Sweet DIY Projects For and Your Love

February 11, 2014, 8:00 AM

Today we are going to give you some ideas on projects you can do with your partner this Valentines Day. A few of these projects are projects you can start on Valentines Day and add to when the mood strikes. We came up with a few different ideas for you so that you can get an idea and make it your own or use these ones – whatever.

DIY, or Do It Yourself projects are great because homemade gifts are super special because you know that someone went that extra mile to really put a lot of thought into the gift and it shows that they know you very well. It’s always special and heartfelt. You really can’t go wrong.

1. Bucket List.
This is a cute idea because you can make it your own and customize it to your and your partners relationship however you want. You will need a picture of a pale/bucket, computer, printer, picture frame, dry erase marker. Come up with a title for the picture (example: Lisa & Mike’s Bucket List of Love) …write whatever you want on it. It’s yours! Lastly, tying back to our previous blog “Date Night Ideas” you and your partner can spend a romantic night together and about the things you both want to do together, places you want to go, etc. When you have your final list, type out the list over top of the picture of the bucket. Print the picture you both created and put it in a frame, hang it somewhere special and whenever you do something off the list together, mark it off the list with a dry erase marker on the glass of the frame. After you did all of them keep it and start a new one!

2. Customized Picture Frame.
This one is simple and sweet. You can find a plain wooden frame from your local craft store for under $2. Vinyl letters come in sheets of about 100 for $4 and then some paint. Place your vinyl letters with whatever message you want to say on your frame, take your paint and make sure you cover the wood completely. Let it dry all the way. You might need another coat of paint or you can add another color or cool sponge or lay a piece of lace over top and sponge a lighter color over top to give it a sweet lace effect. Again, let it dry completely. When the paint is completely dry, gently peel off your venal letters and you will have your frame with your special message. (If you want the letters to be colored and not wood prime the wood frame with a coat of paint with the color you want the letters to be.)

3. Date Ideas In A Jar.
This one is cute and a good way to keep the spark alive in your relationship. Get an empty coffee tin or mason jar and some Popsicle sticks and on each stick write an idea for a date night. Once a month, you and your partner pull out a date night stick and get ready for a night out. When you get home you can write the date on the back of the stick and if you have a memory book or a scrapbook you can put it in there as a memory of the night and write about the night out you had together. This is a fun and cute way to make sure you and your partner make time for each other also.

4. Felt Fortune Cookies.
These are super cute and you can make them sweet or sexy. They cost next to nothing to make and take very little time so if you find yourself looking for something to make last minute, these love fortunes would be a good choice. You will need a sheet of red or pink (or both) felt, you can find this at any craft store or even Walmart or Target, a small cup or jar (3.5″ – 4″ in diameter), a hot glue gun, scissors, printer paper, and black marker. Take your cup or jar and use it to trace circles onto the felt with the black marker then cut inside the black line. After you have cut out your circles, fold them in half to form semicircles and apply a dab of glue in the center of the curve between the layers. Put your index fingers inside the fold and bend the semicircle to where your fingers meet and apply another dab of glue at the crease to hold the pinched shape. Now is the time to cut little strips of paper and add your message or fortune on it and slip it inside the “cookie” you can leave a little bit of paper showing out of the felt if you would like for easy access for your partner to pull it out. Some people like to add Hershey kisses into the felt cookies but that’s up to you.

1. Goat Cheese with Fresh Dill & Paprika.

Ingredients:
2 packages of fresh goat cheese, 6 tablespoons of fresh dill, and 6 tablespoons of paprika.

Instructions:
Place the package of goat cheese into the freezer to chill.

While the goat cheese is chillin’ in the freezer, finely chop your fresh dill and spread it out a bit on the cutting board to let it dry for a few minutes.

The goat cheese should now be slightly firm. When it is ready, carefully remove the goat cheese from the packaging and gently roll it over the fresh dill, coating it almost completely.

Now pour some Paprika (a few tablespoons should probably do) onto a baking sheet. Give the pan a very slight shake to spread out the paprika a bit. Roll the second cylinder of goat cheese in the paprika until it is covered completely.

Carefully wrap each roll snugly in plastic wrap and chill until it’s time to serve. (The Paprika Goat Cheese will not do well if kept for longer than one to two hours so don’t make it too far in advance). Carefully slice them (easier when they are cool) and serve on crackers or crostini.

2. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites

Ingredients:
1 cup creamy peanut butter, 2 tablespoons butter (softened), 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 48 Pretzel Crisps® Original

Pretzels, 10 oz semi-sweet chocolate (chopped), fluer de sal, to taste.

Instructions:
In a stand mixer, combine peanut butter, butter, brown sugar, and powdered sugar -till well combined.

Roll peanut butter mixture in 1 inch balls and smash in-between two pretzels.

In a medium bowl, microwave semi-sweet chocolate in 15 second increments, until melted.

Line counter tops with wax paper and dip half of pretzel sandwiches in melted chocolate and set on wax paper. Sprinkle with fluer de sal

and let chocolate harden.

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container

3. Smoked Salmon Tea Sandwich Canapes

Ingredients:
8 oz package cream cheese, 2 Tbsp Mayo, 1-2 Garlic cloves (pressed), 1-2 Tbsp dill leaves finely chopped (optional), More dill sprigs for

garnish, 4 oz smoked salmon, 1 long baguette (you can substitute this with rye melba toasts too) 2 Tbsp melter butter (if using the

baguette method).

Instructions:
Slice bread into ⅓” thick slices on the diagonal.

Place the bread slices side-by-side onto a large baking sheet. Brush the tops with butter. Flip the breads over and brush the other side with

butter. I just use long strokes across multiple slices of bread at the same time. Bake at 350˚F for 5 minutes or until edges are just barely

starting to turn golden. The breads should still be soft in the center.

In a small bowl, combine all of your spread ingredients: 8 oz cream cheese (no need to soften it), 2 Tbsp Mayo, 1-2 pressed garlic cloves,

1-2 Tbsp freshly chopped dill. Mash it all together with a fork.

Spread the cream cheese mix over the top of each bread slice. It’s OK to spread even if the bread is still warm. Top with a piece of salmon

and garnish with dill. If stacking, it’s a good idea to put plastic wrap between the layers so the bread doesn’t get soggy.

4. No-Bake Eggnog Cheesecake

Ingredients:
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/4 cup melter butter, 1 envelope unflavored gelatin, 1/4 cup

cold water, 1 8oz. package softened cream cheese, 1 cup eggnog, 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions:
In small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, 1/4 cup sugar, nutmeg, and butter; mix well. Press into bottom of 8-inch-square baking

dish; set aside.
In small saucepan, combine gelatin and water; stir over low heat 3 to 4 minutes, until dissolved. Remove from heat; set

aside.
In large bowl, with an electric beater on medium speed, beat cream cheese and the remaining 1/4 cup sugar until well blended. Stir

in dissolved gelatin and eggnog until well blended. Refrigerate 8 to 10 minutes, until slightly thickened.
In a medium-sized bowl, whip

cream. Fold whipped cream into eggnog mixture, then pour over prepared crust, cover, and chill 3 to 4 hours before serving.

5. No-Bake Nachos

Ingredients:
1 bag green and red tortilla chips, 1 can re-fried beans (16 oz), 1/2 head Romaine or  shredded iceberg lettuce,

2 cups shredded Colby jack cheese (or your favorite cheese), 1 cup sour cream, 2 vine-ripened diced tomatoes

Instructions:
Place tortilla chips on a few platters. Layer in this order: re-fried beans (you may heat these if you’d like but I leave them cold like a dip so

the chips don’t get soggy as fast), then lettuce, cheese, sour cream and top with tomatoes. You will have leftover chips from the bag.
