My self-taught lessons have taken me on an interesting journey. To share this with you is a great experience. Hopefully these blogs about each card help you as well. I had my mind mostly clear while selecting the next card. No real connection can be made with this particular pick at this time. I have decided to change up how I prepared these cards and am now going to include the reverse meanings as well. Learning the cards is usually the first step but knowing and understanding reverse aspects are just as important. Reverse meanings usually are the more negative or downsides of the card you are interpreting. The next card I pulled from my deck is the King of Pentacles. A very interesting card in the way it looks.

Card Description: Rider-Waite Tarot Deck

An elderly gentleman sits on a thrown with beautiful green ivy plants all around, not only on this clothing but growing around him as well. There’s a castle in the distance on the right hand side of the picture looking pristine in its grandeur. The king sits on his thrown holding a pentacle in one hand and a scepter in the other. His eyes appear to be down cast as if he’s in deep thought while holding a serene appearance. The thrown is a half and half combination. Gold bull heads on the top and silver bull heads on the bottom. The king’s foot is sticking out of the bottom of his robes showing everyone that he wears his armor underneath.

Card Meaning:

Upright: Usually depicts an older man who is very earthy and tends to indicate a gentleman over the age of 40. This card usually signifies a man either in your life or a man coming into your life. This card is usually associated with the bull or astrologically speaking this card is usually connected to the sign Taurus. He is hard working, devoted and gives generously. This can also be the material card, involving earthly possessions and achieving social success..

Reverse: The meaning is still similar to the upright meaning except that the man being described or situation being described indicates that this person will do pretty much anything for money or will put themselves before others. There is more of a negative feel to this person. Watch for repressed anger and someone who places the blame on others.

Key Words and Associations

Upright: Control, power, abundance and sophistication.

Reversed: Authoritative personality and erratic mood swings towards relationships.

So it’s that time of year again where there seems to be an abundance of chocolate, flowers, and the hope of blossoming love is abundant. So with this in mind I turn to the Lovers card in my deck. The most interesting thing about this card is not the meaning behind it so much but where it is placed in the reading. Also weather or not the card is in reverse or in the regular position.

The A.E Waite definition of this card talks about the meaning behind the many visual aspects of the card. How in a relationship everything starts off pure and good but then falters when ‘honeymoon’ stage starts to wear off. This card lets you know that in you as the person who pulls this card must make the best of what comes within your relationship. This card represents relationships and the choices within those relationships. Where it is in the reading itself give some indication of either an existing relationship or a coming or a relationship. It can also mean the temptation of the heart and some choices of potential partners. Often times there’s a type of sacrifice that needs to happen by making a choice of a relationship. This card indicates to not take that decision lightly. Some major key words for this card are love relationships, romance, unions, passion and pleasure.

When you see the lovers card in reverse this can indicate some troubles relating to someone else within a relationship or in making a decision about your relationship. It could also indicate that you’re looking for love and just simply not finding it. You might have an ideal lover in mind and you pressure those around you to fulfill your ideal. But they will not be able to fulfill it. There could be a period of lack of chemistry or indicate a sexual relationship like a friends with benefits arrangement. This card in reverse could also indicate a relationship where you have feelings but the other person may not share those intense feelings back. Communications with others could be affected and attempts to connect may be leading towards misunderstandings and disagreements. When this card is in reverse all the positive aspects of this card seems to go the other way. It can also mean poor decisions or having indecisive tendencies in love and can be the feeling of regret or guilt that brings this card forward in reverse in a reading.

A lot of times when you see this card in a reading it would be a good idea to find out where it is in the spread and what issues are you asking about. Are you already in a relationship? Or just simply looking to find out when a relationship will happen. Should you find this card in a past position, this could indicate the foundation of the current situation within your relationship. It could also indicate past love or represent your parents (if you are young). If you find this card in a present position within the reading usually indicates a potential relationship coming and coming fast. You might already know who this person is or it’s on the verge of coming. Either way this card in the present position usually indicates that the relationship coming will be one of potential transformation in all aspects of your life – positive or negative. Should you find this card in a future position and you are single it means that it’s a time to go out into the world and start dating. Always make sure you have a clear mind of what it is you want before trying to find a bonding with another.

Even though this card indicates a relationship is coming it also tells you to be clear about what it is you want and make sure you send out the energy you wish to get back. If you are not single this could mean you’re having issues within your current relationship and another person may come in giving you the ‘it’s always greener on the other side’ type of syndrome. Here is where more of those love choices comes into play and it will be up to you as to the decisions you decide to undertake. There will be some choices to make about a relationship and you need to find the focus in order to make a clear choice. Love has a tendency of blurring the lines and this card tells you love is coming and you need to make sure you have a clear idea of what it is you want. And as always be careful of what you wish for.

Sweet DIY Projects For and Your Love

Today we are going to give you some ideas on projects you can do with your partner this Valentines Day. A few of these projects are projects you can start on Valentines Day and add to when the mood strikes. We came up with a few different ideas for you so that you can get an idea and make it your own or use these ones – whatever.

DIY, or Do It Yourself projects are great because homemade gifts are super special because you know that someone went that extra mile to really put a lot of thought into the gift and it shows that they know you very well. It’s always special and heartfelt. You really can’t go wrong.

1. Bucket List.
This is a cute idea because you can make it your own and customize it to your and your partners relationship however you want. You will need a picture of a pale/bucket, computer, printer, picture frame, dry erase marker. Come up with a title for the picture (example: Lisa & Mike’s Bucket List of Love) …write whatever you want on it. It’s yours! Lastly, tying back to our previous blog “Date Night Ideas” you and your partner can spend a romantic night together and about the things you both want to do together, places you want to go, etc. When you have your final list, type out the list over top of the picture of the bucket. Print the picture you both created and put it in a frame, hang it somewhere special and whenever you do something off the list together, mark it off the list with a dry erase marker on the glass of the frame. After you did all of them keep it and start a new one!

2. Customized Picture Frame.
This one is simple and sweet. You can find a plain wooden frame from your local craft store for under $2. Vinyl letters come in sheets of about 100 for $4 and then some paint. Place your vinyl letters with whatever message you want to say on your frame, take your paint and make sure you cover the wood completely. Let it dry all the way. You might need another coat of paint or you can add another color or cool sponge or lay a piece of lace over top and sponge a lighter color over top to give it a sweet lace effect. Again, let it dry completely. When the paint is completely dry, gently peel off your venal letters and you will have your frame with your special message. (If you want the letters to be colored and not wood prime the wood frame with a coat of paint with the color you want the letters to be.)

3. Date Ideas In A Jar.
This one is cute and a good way to keep the spark alive in your relationship. Get an empty coffee tin or mason jar and some Popsicle sticks and on each stick write an idea for a date night. Once a month, you and your partner pull out a date night stick and get ready for a night out. When you get home you can write the date on the back of the stick and if you have a memory book or a scrapbook you can put it in there as a memory of the night and write about the night out you had together. This is a fun and cute way to make sure you and your partner make time for each other also.

4. Felt Fortune Cookies.
These are super cute and you can make them sweet or sexy. They cost next to nothing to make and take very little time so if you find yourself looking for something to make last minute, these love fortunes would be a good choice. You will need a sheet of red or pink (or both) felt, you can find this at any craft store or even Walmart or Target, a small cup or jar (3.5″ – 4″ in diameter), a hot glue gun, scissors, printer paper, and black marker. Take your cup or jar and use it to trace circles onto the felt with the black marker then cut inside the black line. After you have cut out your circles, fold them in half to form semicircles and apply a dab of glue in the center of the curve between the layers. Put your index fingers inside the fold and bend the semicircle to where your fingers meet and apply another dab of glue at the crease to hold the pinched shape. Now is the time to cut little strips of paper and add your message or fortune on it and slip it inside the “cookie” you can leave a little bit of paper showing out of the felt if you would like for easy access for your partner to pull it out. Some people like to add Hershey kisses into the felt cookies but that’s up to you.

Date Night Ideas.

February 10, 2014, 12:00 AM

With Valentines Day coming up on Friday we wanted to feature some special blogs for you all this week with some ideas on how to surprise your mate or love interest. Today we are going to give you some cute ideas for fun date night activities. The best part about most of these ideas is that they wont leave you in debt but they will leave a lasting impression on your loved one.

People put a lot of pressure on themselves to make Valentines Day “perfect” but honestly, in today’s world people are so busy and the economy is so terrible that it’s SO NOT NECESSARY! It’s not about spending a lot of money on gifts or making reservations at the fanciest restaurant in town… What it should be about is you and that person.

If you’re married and planning a date night with your husband/wife, you should focus on catching up with each other and enjoy some quality time catching up on each others lives- talk about anything but the business of your regular lives, enjoy the time together. If you’re an unmarried couple that has been together for a while, do something new or talk about the future and your hopes and dreams of where you want to go together and things you want to experience together. If it’s a first date- there may feel like there’s pressure but it’s not, you’re confusing it with EXCITEMENT. The possibilities are endless…

Let’s dive in!

1. Dinner & Movie Night In.
This is pretty self explanatory. Yes, you might want to go out and that’s totally understandable but you can make a night in equally romantic as a night out on the town. You and your partner can start the day by going to the local market and picking out the nights dinner menu essentials together. Later, you both can get flirty in the kitchen while making a delicious dinner together. Many grocery stores have a precooked section if you feel like going that route too. Then, you can hit your local state store and choose a bottle of wine to bring home for the evening – you can find great wine for under $8 (believe me). And you and your love can head home and get to cooking and snuggle up in front of the TV and rent a Romantic movie right to your TV (or grab one at Redbox while you’re out.) With life’s daily hustle and bustle a night like this might be just the ticket.

2. My Funny Valentine.
This one is a play on something me and my friends did a while back at a party. We called it “Let’s be ‘That Guy’.” This is really fun for twenty-somethings or just silly people really. It’s played off of the art of photo-bombing, which by now I’m sure everyone has heard of because even celebrities are doing it at award shows like the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Anyways, what you do is you and your date add a bit of fun to whatever you have planned and if you see something “photo-bomb” worthy you jump behind it, kiss and snap a photo. If you see a funny sign or statue you can jump in front. Do this all day and night to document your Valentines Day together then if you wish you can print them out and either put them in a photo album, frame, etc.

3. Get Crafty.
Head to the closest arts and crafts store, Target, WalMart, wherever sells scrap-booking materials and just pick up some basics. No need to shell out tons of money. A basic scrap book (even a regular notebook with plain white pages will do), glue stick, colorful pens/markers, and that’s pretty much it. You can get fancy with it if you want and get some stickers or cool scrap-booking paper or embellishments but you can do whatever you want to it- it’s your creation! Spend the evening together looking through photos of your relationship that you want to put in the book and write your favorite memories of that moment or time. Make a page of inside jokes you might have, funny stories, movie ticket/concert tickets you went to together… This is a great thing to do together on such a romantic day because you’re reflecting on your entire relationship and laughing and creating even more memories together.

4. Go Exploring.
Wake up early, pack up some food and drinks maybe a blanket, hop in the car, fill up the tank and go. Maybe make each of you can make a playlist of songs for the road of songs that make you think of the other or just think would be fun to dance to in the car and laugh together to. Road trips with someone you love are the best and are therapeutic. If you see a cool place you’ve never been to before and want to explore together pull over and make some new memories. This one also applies if you live in a big city and have never explored some of it’s history or if you are in a long distance relationship and your partner is visiting – explore together.

5. Play House.
If you and your partner have been making plans for your future together for a while as in “where do you see us living?” or “what kind of car would we have” and such why not spend the day actually living out those fantasies? When me and my boyfriend didn’t have a penny to our name we still would dream of our future house and car and all of the above so one Saturday we did some research on local open houses and we went and toured some homes that were on the market and pictured ourselves starting a family together in some of the homes and it really made us feel so positive about our future and what we wanted because it reassured us that we were on the same page and that we wanted the same things. You can also go to test drive vehicles at car dealerships and used car lots to get the same feel and it’s a fun way to spend the day together and “play house”. This is especially great for engaged couples who are overwhelmed with wedding planning and need a break for a bit from all the details of wedding planning.

There’s so many ways to come up with cute, inexpensive and truly meaningful date night/day ideas for all year round. Make sure to bookmark our page if you haven’t already because in honor of Valentines Day our staff will be featuring blogs all throughout the week with great ideas for special things you can do for your sweetheart, friends, kids, and family for Valentines Day.

1. Goat Cheese with Fresh Dill & Paprika.

Ingredients:
2 packages of fresh goat cheese, 6 tablespoons of fresh dill, and 6 tablespoons of paprika.

Instructions:
Place the package of goat cheese into the freezer to chill.

While the goat cheese is chillin’ in the freezer, finely chop your fresh dill and spread it out a bit on the cutting board to let it dry for a few minutes.

The goat cheese should now be slightly firm. When it is ready, carefully remove the goat cheese from the packaging and gently roll it over the fresh dill, coating it almost completely.

Now pour some Paprika (a few tablespoons should probably do) onto a baking sheet. Give the pan a very slight shake to spread out the paprika a bit. Roll the second cylinder of goat cheese in the paprika until it is covered completely.

Carefully wrap each roll snugly in plastic wrap and chill until it’s time to serve. (The Paprika Goat Cheese will not do well if kept for longer than one to two hours so don’t make it too far in advance). Carefully slice them (easier when they are cool) and serve on crackers or crostini.

2. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites

Ingredients:
1 cup creamy peanut butter, 2 tablespoons butter (softened), 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 48 Pretzel Crisps® Original

Pretzels, 10 oz semi-sweet chocolate (chopped), fluer de sal, to taste.

Instructions:
In a stand mixer, combine peanut butter, butter, brown sugar, and powdered sugar -till well combined.

Roll peanut butter mixture in 1 inch balls and smash in-between two pretzels.

In a medium bowl, microwave semi-sweet chocolate in 15 second increments, until melted.

Line counter tops with wax paper and dip half of pretzel sandwiches in melted chocolate and set on wax paper. Sprinkle with fluer de sal

and let chocolate harden.

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container

3. Smoked Salmon Tea Sandwich Canapes

Ingredients:
8 oz package cream cheese, 2 Tbsp Mayo, 1-2 Garlic cloves (pressed), 1-2 Tbsp dill leaves finely chopped (optional), More dill sprigs for

garnish, 4 oz smoked salmon, 1 long baguette (you can substitute this with rye melba toasts too) 2 Tbsp melter butter (if using the

baguette method).

Instructions:
Slice bread into ⅓” thick slices on the diagonal.

Place the bread slices side-by-side onto a large baking sheet. Brush the tops with butter. Flip the breads over and brush the other side with

butter. I just use long strokes across multiple slices of bread at the same time. Bake at 350˚F for 5 minutes or until edges are just barely

starting to turn golden. The breads should still be soft in the center.

In a small bowl, combine all of your spread ingredients: 8 oz cream cheese (no need to soften it), 2 Tbsp Mayo, 1-2 pressed garlic cloves,

1-2 Tbsp freshly chopped dill. Mash it all together with a fork.

Spread the cream cheese mix over the top of each bread slice. It’s OK to spread even if the bread is still warm. Top with a piece of salmon

and garnish with dill. If stacking, it’s a good idea to put plastic wrap between the layers so the bread doesn’t get soggy.

4. No-Bake Eggnog Cheesecake

Ingredients:
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/4 cup melter butter, 1 envelope unflavored gelatin, 1/4 cup

cold water, 1 8oz. package softened cream cheese, 1 cup eggnog, 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions:
In small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, 1/4 cup sugar, nutmeg, and butter; mix well. Press into bottom of 8-inch-square baking

dish; set aside.
In small saucepan, combine gelatin and water; stir over low heat 3 to 4 minutes, until dissolved. Remove from heat; set

aside.
In large bowl, with an electric beater on medium speed, beat cream cheese and the remaining 1/4 cup sugar until well blended. Stir

in dissolved gelatin and eggnog until well blended. Refrigerate 8 to 10 minutes, until slightly thickened.
In a medium-sized bowl, whip

cream. Fold whipped cream into eggnog mixture, then pour over prepared crust, cover, and chill 3 to 4 hours before serving.

5. No-Bake Nachos

Ingredients:
1 bag green and red tortilla chips, 1 can re-fried beans (16 oz), 1/2 head Romaine or  shredded iceberg lettuce,

2 cups shredded Colby jack cheese (or your favorite cheese), 1 cup sour cream, 2 vine-ripened diced tomatoes

Instructions:
Place tortilla chips on a few platters. Layer in this order: re-fried beans (you may heat these if you’d like but I leave them cold like a dip so

the chips don’t get soggy as fast), then lettuce, cheese, sour cream and top with tomatoes. You will have leftover chips from the bag.
