My self-taught lessons have taken me on an interesting journey. To share this with you is a great experience. Hopefully these blogs about each card help you as well. I had my mind mostly clear while selecting the next card. No real connection can be made with this particular pick at this time. I have decided to change up how I prepared these cards and am now going to include the reverse meanings as well. Learning the cards is usually the first step but knowing and understanding reverse aspects are just as important. Reverse meanings usually are the more negative or downsides of the card you are interpreting. The next card I pulled from my deck is the King of Pentacles. A very interesting card in the way it looks.

Card Description: Rider-Waite Tarot Deck

An elderly gentleman sits on a thrown with beautiful green ivy plants all around, not only on this clothing but growing around him as well. There’s a castle in the distance on the right hand side of the picture looking pristine in its grandeur. The king sits on his thrown holding a pentacle in one hand and a scepter in the other. His eyes appear to be down cast as if he’s in deep thought while holding a serene appearance. The thrown is a half and half combination. Gold bull heads on the top and silver bull heads on the bottom. The king’s foot is sticking out of the bottom of his robes showing everyone that he wears his armor underneath.

Card Meaning:

Upright: Usually depicts an older man who is very earthy and tends to indicate a gentleman over the age of 40. This card usually signifies a man either in your life or a man coming into your life. This card is usually associated with the bull or astrologically speaking this card is usually connected to the sign Taurus. He is hard working, devoted and gives generously. This can also be the material card, involving earthly possessions and achieving social success..

Reverse: The meaning is still similar to the upright meaning except that the man being described or situation being described indicates that this person will do pretty much anything for money or will put themselves before others. There is more of a negative feel to this person. Watch for repressed anger and someone who places the blame on others.

Key Words and Associations

Upright: Control, power, abundance and sophistication.

Reversed: Authoritative personality and erratic mood swings towards relationships.

So it’s that time of year again where there seems to be an abundance of chocolate, flowers, and the hope of blossoming love is abundant. So with this in mind I turn to the Lovers card in my deck. The most interesting thing about this card is not the meaning behind it so much but where it is placed in the reading. Also weather or not the card is in reverse or in the regular position.

The A.E Waite definition of this card talks about the meaning behind the many visual aspects of the card. How in a relationship everything starts off pure and good but then falters when ‘honeymoon’ stage starts to wear off. This card lets you know that in you as the person who pulls this card must make the best of what comes within your relationship. This card represents relationships and the choices within those relationships. Where it is in the reading itself give some indication of either an existing relationship or a coming or a relationship. It can also mean the temptation of the heart and some choices of potential partners. Often times there’s a type of sacrifice that needs to happen by making a choice of a relationship. This card indicates to not take that decision lightly. Some major key words for this card are love relationships, romance, unions, passion and pleasure.

When you see the lovers card in reverse this can indicate some troubles relating to someone else within a relationship or in making a decision about your relationship. It could also indicate that you’re looking for love and just simply not finding it. You might have an ideal lover in mind and you pressure those around you to fulfill your ideal. But they will not be able to fulfill it. There could be a period of lack of chemistry or indicate a sexual relationship like a friends with benefits arrangement. This card in reverse could also indicate a relationship where you have feelings but the other person may not share those intense feelings back. Communications with others could be affected and attempts to connect may be leading towards misunderstandings and disagreements. When this card is in reverse all the positive aspects of this card seems to go the other way. It can also mean poor decisions or having indecisive tendencies in love and can be the feeling of regret or guilt that brings this card forward in reverse in a reading.

A lot of times when you see this card in a reading it would be a good idea to find out where it is in the spread and what issues are you asking about. Are you already in a relationship? Or just simply looking to find out when a relationship will happen. Should you find this card in a past position, this could indicate the foundation of the current situation within your relationship. It could also indicate past love or represent your parents (if you are young). If you find this card in a present position within the reading usually indicates a potential relationship coming and coming fast. You might already know who this person is or it’s on the verge of coming. Either way this card in the present position usually indicates that the relationship coming will be one of potential transformation in all aspects of your life – positive or negative. Should you find this card in a future position and you are single it means that it’s a time to go out into the world and start dating. Always make sure you have a clear mind of what it is you want before trying to find a bonding with another.

Even though this card indicates a relationship is coming it also tells you to be clear about what it is you want and make sure you send out the energy you wish to get back. If you are not single this could mean you’re having issues within your current relationship and another person may come in giving you the ‘it’s always greener on the other side’ type of syndrome. Here is where more of those love choices comes into play and it will be up to you as to the decisions you decide to undertake. There will be some choices to make about a relationship and you need to find the focus in order to make a clear choice. Love has a tendency of blurring the lines and this card tells you love is coming and you need to make sure you have a clear idea of what it is you want. And as always be careful of what you wish for.

So I have been doing Cartomancy for a while now as we’ve all seen from my first experience in my last blog. It’s been nagging me to do a follow up since I’ve been neglecting my tarot studies for this slight diversion off my card path. I had the opportunity to test out my Cartomancy skills with Erin on a subject everyone always seems to want more information about. Her money situation and how it will grow. The results were interesting and dealt with many things surrounding Erin’s money issues.

Row 1:
The first row in the spread that was chosen, dealt with past events or people involved in her life and question. They indicated that she had three friends who had helped her on the money path. Friends whom the deck suggested she spend more time with to help enhance her financial status with some good advice. Perhaps even encourage some great ideas for investing or ways to grow her money to benefit her lifestyle.

Row 2:
The second row deals with present issues, how Erin was feeling and the present influences that could lead to answers to her money flow issues. The second row explained how Erin had recently been hit with a blow to her finances. She had experienced a recent illness that had set her back. But through it all she needed to keep her work flow going smoothly even though others will tell her otherwise. She might not get the payback she would like but through her hard work, money will eventually improve.

Row 3:
The third row usually has the outcome of the question that was brought forth to the cards and spread. Erin’s cards indicated that her money issues would evolve but to watch out for a male energy that could try to influence her towards another direction which would lead to tragic loss. Lies and liars circulate around her and want her to step out of her steady path for their own gain. However, a visit from someone important to her or a possible home move would be in her benefit especially for her money situation.

How it ties together:
Erin needs to spend more time with the influential people in her life that are there to help her through her darkest hours. Times are rough currently but she can and will overcome it all if she stays strong and keeps her work flow steady. Hard work and much time will result in small paybacks right away however as she progresses on her path things will change and the recognition she deserves will come. There’s a large amount of deception around her that could be disastrous. A male energy will try to influence their ideas but with good friends and a steady mind set Erin will overcome the odds and grow her money to where it needs to be.

Learning the Tarot – Nine of Wands

January 22, 2013, 7:16 PM

I’ve heard it said that once you’ve gotten a Tarot deck it starts to connect with the user and ‘speak’ to them. Many of excellent tarot deck readers will tell you that the cards almost become an extension of your psyche. The next card in my segment was a very surprising one. Almost as if my deck wanted to point out the truth behind the words that I heard from others who read the deck professionally. I had many questions lingering in my head as I had spread out my deck of cards and tried to select my next card to write about. I wondered about this experience of learning the Tarot and contemplating the lessons I would learn and the experiences I would take away from the cards. I kept pondering my path and questioning of if I could commit to and see to the end of this project as I spread out my deck and pulled my next card. Low and behold The Nine of Wands appeared.

Card Description: Rider-Waite Tarot Deck

There seems to be a lot going on in this picture. A lone man stands in this card with eight wands up right behind him. He holds the ninth wand in his hand as he watches the rest. There seems to be some kind of bandage on his head and this man looks as if he’s been working very hard and fighting to maintain the wands in the card. There seems to be lush green valley with some hills in the background with the clear blue sky above.

Card Meaning

This is another one of those ‘waiting’ cards. Almost as if my deck is telling me I must wait for the universe to release the answers that I seek. With this card endurance and patience is needed while my project matures. This card is basically telling me that I need to keep going by digging deeply within myself and pushing forward with this because I’ll be able to reap the benefits of this project I’ve undertaken. I’ve been told by other readers that when this card comes up in it could be that the querent won’t let others complete a job, but rest assured no matter how tired or over worked the feelings may be. The completion of everything worked on is there and will soon be ready to finalize.

Key words and associations

Inner Strength, Caution, Defensive, Courage in the face of an attack, and unmovable stability.

Reading Forward

Most Saturdays I enjoy rising early and watching the sun from a chair on my porch. The crows are often on the wire being noisy and taunting the cat. Or maybe they’re taunting me. More often than not an older woman named Mora passes by with her dog Dixie and says hello. I always try to wave her over and have her pull a Tarot card from an old deck that belonged to my granny. Mora gets a kick out of this. What’s interesting to me is she has never wanted me to interpret her card pick. She looks at the card, utters a low  “Hmmmm,” thanks me, and then shuffles on her way. This has become a Saturday ritual for us both.

Two weeks ago Mora told me she didn’t want to pick a card. She wanted me to pick a card.
So I did.

I pulled the Seven of Wands and handed it to her.

“No,” she told me. “Show me a card to look at that will make him talk.”

“Make who talk?” I asked.

“My son.”

“There’s no card to make someone talk,” I told her.

“Show me a card to look at that will maybe change some things.”

I wanted to tell her that we get what we focus upon. Instead I kept my mouth shut and remembered this woman was probably five steps ahead of me and most likely trying to teach me something.

My granny used to do this trick each morning while meditating. She would pull cards to see where she was headed, then she would find the card or cards that most represented what she wanted to manifest. It was an old Tarot meditation: focus upon the card or cards that represented the aspects you wanted to see manifest; that old axiom, you get what you focus upon. Granny called this a reverse reading. Nowadays we use white boards, focus wheels, and affirmations, but the results are the same. Carl Jung and other psychologists, however, have stated time and time again that the Tarot imagery speaks directly to the subconscious and the collective unconscious; the imagery shows us that with which we are aligned, and when meditated upon, the imagery aligns us with the aspects of focus.

So I pulled the Two of Cups from one of Granny’s decks and gave it to Mora.

“Keep this with you and bring it back next week,” I said. “Put it where you’ll see it often.”

Mora smiled, put the card in her purse, and then she told me, “The crows think you are crazy.”

The Two of Cups shows two people enjoying exceptional communication. But more than that, it shows two people eager and committed to communicate at deeper and more fulfilling levels. My blog is not about the card, but about the style of the reverse reading. The art of sending our attention into the aspects that we want instead of waiting for something to happen that we like or for the crows to say something complimentary.

Learning the Tarot – The Emperor

So on this journey I’ve come to realize that certain things happen for certain reasons. Perhaps it’s the guidance we all seek or perhaps it’s guidance we don’t really seek but are given anyway. Almost like the advice we get from our parents. Sometimes when life hands you the hardest things to cope with we start to feel unsure of ourselves without the needed push to go above and beyond. Isn’t that what parents are suppose to do? Push their children out in the world with all the knowledge they can possibly instill?  What does this all mean? Well it’s leading up to my next card, The Emperor.

Card Description: Card from the A.E Waite Deck

So here is the card that at first glance just looks like some old guy sitting on a throne. He’s got a crown, golden scepter and he’s sitting on a throne. The throne looks sturdy and has ram head sculptures on the back of the chair and on the arms itself. In the background are high mountains and dusk setting in the skies above. He’s got a skeptical gaze and an air of authority. You can tell he’s been there, he’s done that. And just like most fathers the best source of advice during some of life’s hardest battles.

Meaning:

This card basically is the ‘father of the deck’. He’s the grounding authority that comes up in readings to offer advice or to point out someone who fits this role in your life. When this card usually shows up in a reading we get an instant grounding effect. This card tries to remind you that sometimes going out there and actually doing what is needed is the best course of action especially when we are unsure of what is going on. Realize your own inner strength and motivation and become the leader this card knows you can be.

So what does this mean to me? Well since I pulled this card while trying to figure out the next card in this segment. I happened to be thinking about this task that I have brought on to myself. If I was going the right direction, would I learn anything from this process? With this card I’ve come to realize that yes I am going down the right path and yes I’ll learn much as well as find the inner strength to over come any obstacles that may come into my path while going down this road.

Join me on Psychics Foretell’s Facebook to continue discussions on the tarot deck and the interesting things I’ve learned through all the journey’s I’ve written about.

I’ve always been one to try new things out and someone suggested that I try this out. This is a personal journey into each card of the Tarot. Hopefully by doing this I’ll be able to understand all of these cards and the meaning behind them. Let’s get this story started by randomly choosing a card by spreading out the deck.

Card of the day – The Hanged Man

First impressions tend to mean a lot to people, and this card could give the impression that something isn’t right. But just hang on there and take a deeper look into the cards. The guy hanging seems to be in a calm state and certainly not what you would expect from a person hanging upside down. Even though his hands are tied behind his back and he’s hanging upside down you see a clear calm in the figures face with light behind his head. Almost as if to tell anyone looking at this card that right now I may look like I’m in trouble but in fact the perception is untrue. Look deeper into what I stand for…

Meaning:
Expect no expectations with this card. Everything seems to be in a state of suspension. Sacrifices are to be made when this card shows up maybe it’s time to give up something and this card is saying that for something new can come in to take it’s place you’ll need some time to really think about it. Sometimes pausing things and taking a good look around you would be the best course of action. Standing back and gaining some perception into an issue so that you can release some of those habits we’ve come by through the years. When this card pops up in a reading its focus is about waiting and gaining some perspective and nothing scary like persecution. Something has ended and yet nothing else has begun quite yet. The cosmic waiting game begins.

Mythology:
The story behind this card is rather simple to tell. Many folks believe it clearly shows the story of Odin and how he sacrificed himself in order to gain the wisdom he apparently had. This man dangles upside down and surrenders all – money, wants, cares, this list can go on. This mans perspective of the world is changing and by hanging he is able to be in between the real world and the spiritual. Eventually this man knows he will need to right himself and be back into the world, but when he does his perception has changed. Things are not the same within his own heart anymore.

Key Words and Associations:
Self Sacrifice, Letting Go, Acceptance, Patience, and A New point of view.

Learning about Tarot: Death.

RWS_Tarot_13_Death

By: Elly

Card Description:
Death, numbered 13 in most decks, is usually depicted by a skeleton or reaper riding a white horse or on foot, sometimes with the sun or moon rising behind him.

Death is surrounded by dying people of all castes/classes, from commoners to nobility; a woman looks on, distraught by the fall of the king. The reaper often carries scythe or a flag emblazoned with a rose signifying life, set against a gray background, which many think symbolizes uncertainty. A child can sometimes be seen in some versions of the card, which can mean curiosity or

Card Mythos:
Freeing himself from the tree where he was hung, clearing his head of visions, the Fool continues his journey on the road of life. He walks through a field in winter, the trees bare and the fields barren, he feels somehow empty. As the sun rises he comes upon Death, mounted on a white steed. Death stops as the Fool approaches him and the Fool inquires of him, “Am I dead?”, Death tell him that in a way, he is, he has lost his former self and life.

The Fool begins to cry, and excuses himself for this, Death tells him that it is natural to mourn his loss, and he must do so in order to be receptive to new things. The foliage must wilt and leave the trees branches bare before new growth can begin. Death continues on his way and the Fool, considering what he has been told, understands the truth, that he is like the skeleton, stripped down to bone so that a new transformation can take place.

Card Meaning:
Death doesn’t refer to the physical death but instead usually to a major life change, a rebirth spiritually. It can mean an end to something as well, a relationship or a conflict, clearing the path of old issues and making way for a new journey. Death does not discriminate, and there will be sorrow, but it will make way for joy. Querents often fear the Death card, but most of the time it is more a symbol of hope than something to be worried about.

When the death card shows up in a reading, the querent should step back and really think about all the things going on in their life, and tie up any loose ends, and clear away any unfinished business. It’s also a time for re-evaluating one’s routine and goals in life. Now is the time to come to terms with these changes and learn from them. It is a time to move on from any losses and look toward the future.

Card Associations:
Rebirth, inescapable change, transition, sadness, loss, transformation, leaving behind old ways, regeneration, creation, end of a cycle, deep change, good-byes, conclusion, change, spiritual renewal, change or growth, sex, attaining a higher level.

Card Description:
The Magician is also referred to as the Magus or Mage. It is numbered 1 in most Tarot decks, and is shown to be a master of the elements. Red and white are prominent colors in this card, and the Magician wears a crown of the lemniscate (infinity symbol) one hand pointed towards the sky one toward the earth. The Magician has before him one of each symbol from the tarot, a wand, a sword, a cup, and a disk or pentacle. Sometimes one or all of these items are displayed on a table.

On his journey, the Magician is the first the fool meets, he mesmerizes the fool and asks for his bindle, which he places upon his table and calling forth the powers of heaven and earth the cloth opens to reveal its contents.

The Magician provides the Fool with the tools for his journey through life, the sword for communication and intellect, the cup full of love and emotion, the wand for ambition and drive, and the pentacle for will power and work.

It is as if the Magician has shown the fool all of his possible paths through the future, and with the tools provided him the fool sees he can shape his life any way he sees fit, do anything, make anything of himself. It is not known weather he has always possessed these tools, or whether the Magician has provided them to him, only the Magician knows for sure.

wheel of fortune
By: Elly

Card Description:

This card shows the wheel of the goddess Fortuna, turning clockwise with people, or animals falling from/climbing it. Atop it there is sometimes perched a sphinx holding the sword of discernment, representing balance in the face of constant fluidity.

It also usually features the word “TARO” and the four suits represented in any given deck; Wands, Cups, Discs/Pentacles, and Swords (all of which can be found on the magicians table). Also of note are alchemical symbols and frequently, Hebrew symbols as well.

According to Wikipedia, The letters on the wheel were intended by Waite to mean “Rota Taro Orat Tora Ator,” which he “translated” (this term used loosely) to: “The Wheel of Taro[t] speaks the Law of Ator [Hathor, or Love]”

In the four corners there will be figures, usually a bull, an eagle, a man, and a lion each having an open book. These will mean different things going by different traditions but they can be viewed as four fixed signs of the zodiac (Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio), the four gospels, the seasons, or the four angels of the apocalypse.

The mythos of the card:

The Major Arcana is also viewed as a life’s journey through the character of the Fool, (which is “zero” in the Major Arcana) and the challenges he will face. This card represents the introduction of random chance into the Fool’s life, which, can hinder or help him. He finds that all the good things he’s done in life seem to be returning to him three fold, reinforcing the concept of “What goes around, comes around.”

Card Meaning:

This card usually represents luck, change, or the Karmic cycle, a turning point. This card also symbolizes movement of fate, unexpected developments, life cycles, possibilities, abundance, and approachability. Usually a sign of positive change, or the end of a bad situation, it can have negative connotations. This will depend on the tone of the reading in general and the reader’s intuition.

Poor becoming rich or vice versa, this card can represent a lesson to be learned about your Karma and objectivity. If the querent is on their way down the wheel then they have to face up to something and learn from that, until they do the wheel will keep finding a way to try to teach its lesson.

The querent must keep an open heart and mind to receive life’s good fortunes, and lessons. The querent’s actions have placed them on the path they are on now, though the wheel injects seemingly random chances or opportunities into their life and they can not control the wheel, ultimately they will be the one responsible for the outcome.
