Death, numbered 13 in most decks, is usually depicted by a skeleton or reaper riding a white horse or on foot, sometimes with the sun or moon rising behind him.

Death stops as the Fool approaches him and the Fool inquires of him, “Am I dead?”, Death tell him that in a way, he is, he has lost his former self and life.

The Fool begins to cry, and excuses himself for this, Death tells him that it is natural to mourn his loss, and he must do so in order to be receptive to new things. The foliage must wilt and leave the trees branches bare before new growth can begin. Death continues on his way and the Fool, considering what he has been told, understands the truth, that he is like the skeleton, stripped down to bone so that a new transformation can take place.

Card Meaning:
Death doesn’t refer to the physical death but instead usually to a major life change, a rebirth spiritually. It can mean an end to something as well, a relationship or a conflict, clearing the path of old issues and making way for a new journey. Death does not discriminate, and there will be sorrow, but it will make way for joy. Querents often fear the Death card, but most of the time it is more a symbol of hope than something to be worried about.

When the death card shows up in a reading, the querent should step back and really think about all the things going on in their life, and tie up any loose ends, and clear away any unfinished business. It’s also a time for re-evaluating one’s routine and goals in life. Now is the time to come to terms with these changes and learn from them. It’s come to my attention that summer is right almost upon us! Memorial day is coming. In June we’ll see the summer Solstice is right around the corner. Family and friends having barbeques, the pool party invites are pouring in by the dozen.

The season of summer seems to be biting us all like the mosquitoes. So to kind of kick off the summer I’ve decided to make a list of summer fun and things to avoid. Hopefully everyone will have the best summer ever!

Summer Fun:
1. Plan some Summer Activities – If you have children of any age great summer activities are the best way to keep the kids busy when school is out. Why not try something like making home made ice cream? Nothing says hello summer than some ice cream on a hot day.

2. Get a Psychic Reading – Find out if that cute guy you keep talking to could be the start of a summer romance. You never know he could end up being the one you’ll stay with through the long winter months ahead.

3. Get out and Enjoy the Weather – Who said you had to stay home when summer is breaking out of the shell? Why not go on a vacation and enjoy some time with some family or even some great friends? Things to Avoid:
1. Sun Burn – Every summer since I can remember usually starts off with me forgetting that the sun can burn me. Blisters aren’t a very classy thing to sport while in your hot summer gear. Plus years later you wouldn’t want to do some damage to your skin that you couldn’t’ reverse. Like that popular song said ‘Always wear your sunscreen’…Maybe a hat too just to be safe.

2. Alcohol – Alcohol has a dehydrating effect on the body. Extreme heat and alcohol can equal serious injuries, illness and even death. So be careful when consuming the product and make sure you keep your self hydrated with things like juicy fruits such as watermelon, cucumbers, corn on the cob. Or keep some classic summer time drinks like lemonade, ice tea or even some fresh ice water available.

3. Being Bored! – The thing to avoid this summer is getting caught in the bored vortex. Get out and have some fun. It’s summer time!

In my research, I found some very interesting things about this particular holiday. One of them being this is not a Mexican or Latino holiday and is usually confused with the Mexico’s Independence Day. It’s actually a holiday about fighting the giant and the United States Civil war.

The United States recognizes Cinco de Mayo as a holiday as it would for say St. Patrick’s Day (for the Irish), Oktoberfest (for the Germans), and the Chinese New Year (for most Asian cultures). Cinco de Mayo is a day to celebrate the ancestry of Mexican and Latino cultures.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over Napoleon III and his French army. You see back then, Mexico had many wars. You have the Mexican American war of 1846-1848, then the Mexican Civil war of 1858, and the reformed wars of 1860. I could quite imagine the treasury department back then was about ready to jump ship with all the debt Mexico had been getting into.

They owed money to Britain, Spain, and France. America at the time was in its own civil war (1861-1865) so providing assistance was about impossible. Britain and Spain were willing to have some type of agreement and allow the Mexican government some time before resuming payments to them for the debt. The French on the other hand invaded Mexico in late 1861 driving out the Mexican president Benito Juarez, and causing the government to retreat.

Many historians say that Napoleon III or France really only wanted to occupy Mexico for a completely different reason. They didn’t really want Mexico for any type of personal gain but instead they wanted a foot in the door to help other interests inside the United States. Napoleon III was known for helping
Confederate Rebels against Union armed forces during the American Civil war (1861-1865). When France met heavy resistance from the people in Puebla, the Mexican people promptly kicked them to the curb for a little over a year.

The Battle of Puebla was only a short lived victory but one that would go down in the history books. The French army at the time was one of the strongest in the world. They went into Mexico with 8,000 men and fought 4,000 Mexicans (who were poorly equipped) and still got served.

Napoleon’s troops weren’t able to re-establish their foot holds for a little over a year and were unable to support Confederate rebels with supplies against Union Forces. That year given by those who fought at the Battle of Puebla gave the Union time to build defenses against the Confederate Rebels and take them out at the infamous Battle of Gettysburg July 1st-3rd 1863. Of course, once the Union knew they were on the way to victory they then helped the Mexican government to rise and take out French occupation.

So let’s celebrate Cinco de Mayo in style! I’ll be grabbing my sombrero and going to the local festivals for some entertaining Mexican / Latino celebrations. During my celebration, I’ll remember and honor those who have fought to keep the United States a melting pot of many different cultures.

Da other day, as I was enjoyin some sun on my beautifully built body, I heare a meeting happening between my Mommy and da girls from da office of Foretel. Usually I sleep right thru it but this time I needed to set these girlz straight! One of da girls said something about her puppy and how he wiggles a lot and asked if dogs dream. ‘YES! We do!’ I wanted to yell, I walked on over to my Mommy and tried to tell her my answer. But she can’t speak dog, so here I am.

Anyway, to sets da record straight when we twitch, quiver, or growl at phantom enemies it’s because we are dreamin. Believe it or not most of da time we just dream about dog stuff. For example, last night I had a dream about my Lulu (my absolute favorite stuffed-ted-ed animal toy) and we played some of my favorite games had a good time. Even after Lulu turned into my Kitty girlfriend (yeah she’s a real cat and you know what I love her even if that sounds taboo). Since I could still remember da meeting before Mommy taked me to da park, I decided to talk to some of da other guy from da park.

As soon as we get into da park I see Fluffy (da Doberman, yeah I can’t explain that one Maybe he’s parents is just stoopid?). He and I sniffed-ted-ed up a conversation while our parents talked-ted-ed. Fluffy says that he keeps having a re-occurrin dream where he gets to attack this strange man that tried to hurt his friends and ends up being a hero. He said he woke-ted-ed up in da middle of da dream only to realize that dare was nothing dare (See? Stoopid.)

Fluffy had to leave a little bit after we had started our conversation. His parents had gotten dare a lot earlier than Mommy and I. So we said our goodbyes and I walked-ted-ed further into da park. Dare weren’t very many people here today but at least I was able to talk to a few more friends.

After Fluffy left, I picked up the sent of Monte (He’s a Sootish Teror? He’s got a stoopid accent, nice guy but really to into da whole Kennel club breeding thing for me.) He tolded me about his dream where he keeps diggin wholes in da ground. Once, in a dream, every time he would go and dig a whole it was magically covered over before he would start da next one.

‘At first, fur some reason Ah was tryin’ to blame ‘at moggie mommy keeps aroond th’ hoose. It was’na stalkin’ me in mah dream. Then it suddenly didn’t matter anymore. Ah just dug an’ dug an’ kept goin until ah thought ah had dug big enough hole, only to want to dig some more’. (yeah, see stoopid accent, maybe you can translate it? At some point Monte got all twitchy and started diggin a hole. I guess talking about it made him feel da need? I didn’t want to be apart of da diggin party since dare was only room for one and went to find some of my other friends.

I wuz walkin up to da dog run and I sniffed into Terry (he’s a mix of a couple breeds, cool guy we’ve played a few times before. He’s kind of stoopid, he neva sits still.) He says he dreams about chasing things that is, until his parents threw a ball. He left me sitting dare mid sentence, which makes him double stoopid. After that point I decided to sort of walk around sniffin things maybe get into a friendly wrestlin game with some of my friends. This dream thing can wait while I play!

As da day went on, I noticed that one of da girls from da Foretel office was at da park with her puppy friend Ollie. After I got her to calm down about seeing me again (she’s stoopid too, but friendly and talks with a girly blondy voice), we started to talk about dreams. ‘Sometimes I’ll have dreams where like I’m singin songs or talkin with like Mommy and Daddy… Shinny objects / lights always like haunt my dreams. Just something so exciting about like… OMG cardboard!’ yeah told u she waz stoopid, Dat’s a direct quote from her. She took one look at da trash can, seen da empty cardboard box and off she went with her mommy running after her. I think she ate it.

It was time to leave and go over to my Cousin Notchee’s house. After getting out of da vehicle I had to wait for her to calm down and stop playing with me to ask her a few questions about her dreams. My cousin says she dreams about all kinds of things like ‘diggin wholes in the ground, playing with my favorite cong toy or Frisbee, sometimes I’ve had nightmares.

Like once I had a dream I was human!’ She started going a mile a minute going on about having to pay taxes (whatever that is) and somethin about paying bills (I’m not even sure SHE knows what that is). She stopped talking at that point and tried to wrestle me to da ground. I guess she figured out I wasn’t listening.

So folks see we do dream and it’s different for every dog I guess based off of things your best friend likes to do with you or da family. So da next time someone says day aren’t sure if dogs dream you can confidently say ‘YES day do! Because Kingston told me so.’

Easter is a holiday typically observed by Christians all across the world, but nowadays you might see it as something extremely commercialized. Everyone wants to stock up on their candy, eggs, baskets, and little rabbit toys.

We’ve known for a long time that Easter really isn’t about the jelly beans and the peeps and all the other small frivolities, but somewhere along the way the holiday just became something much easier to sell with all that’s around us.

Easter was originally linked to the Passover and Exodus from Egypt in the Old Testament of the bible. In the New Testament, Jesus prepares himself for his death by enjoying Passover with his disciples.

He sacrificed himself, like a lamb to be slaughtered during this religious time, for the sins of the people and suffered to see their anguish at an end. Three days after he died, he rose from the dead to walk among his disciples once more as their guide and savior.

Today, Easter is celebrated as a time of sacrifice and penitence. Lent, the religious cycle predating the Easter celebration, is a time where people fast in some way in order to abstain from a piece of their lives and to sacrifice some small part of themselves for the holiday. Some people wipe sweets from their diet or give up their favorite pastime to show how devoted they are.

When Easter Sunday finally arrives, a family comes together to give thanks for their God; they celebrate by eating, playing games, and going to church to honor this holy day.

We look at spring and think of all the new flowers, the baby animals that are being born, and the weather brightening. We’re entering a very celebrated time of year right now. Spring is a time of renewal and beauty, when the earth begins to flourish, the sun is out a little bit more, and the weather paves the way for the heat of summer. Spring is also a time for celebration in many cultures, but we’re only focusing on this week for now. We hope to provide some insight to a few traditions and celebrations coming up this week.

This week we are going to see several celebrations taking place, as we leave the traditional time for cherry blossom festivals, Easter, and Passover. Passover or Pesach is one of the most widely celebrated Jewish holidays. Passover is observed over seven days beginning on the 15 of the Jewish month of Nisan. (This is usually April.)

The first and second nights are celebrated with a ritual dinner, with a third taking place on the Friday during Passover. These ritual dinners are called Seder, Passover Seder is especially important because it is when the story of the Exodus is passed along.

The centerpiece of the dinner is the Seder Plate, which contains The Zeroah or roasted lamb shank bone symbolizes the paschal sacrifice made the night the ancient Hebrews fled Egypt. Some people think this symbolizes the outstretched arm of God (the Hebrew word zeroah can mean “arm”).

The Baytsah or roasted egg is offered as a sacrificial offering to the second temple, it is also said to represent the Hebrew people, you can burn them, but they will only become tougher.

Maror or “bitter herb” is usually horseradish, and the Chazeret, the secondary bitter herb on the Seder plate is carrots or horseradish greens. These are meant to recall the bitterness of slavery in Egypt, and should to help one reflect on their current enslavements, addictions, or habits.

The Charoset, the opposite of the Maror and Chazeret. A sweet salad of apples, wine, nuts, and cinnamon meant to represent the mortar that Hebrew slaves used to build with in Egypt.

The Karpas can be any spring green, though it is most often parsley, used to represent the freshness of spring, and new beginnings, and nobility. in addition, salt water to represent the tears and sweat of enslavement.

Matzah or unleavened bread plays a big part in the story of the exodus. The Matzot (plural) are placed on the table and covered with a cloth. The traditional number is 3, with a 4th added in recent history to symbolize the struggle of those who are not free to celebrate.

During Seder, the story of the ten plagues and the exodus from Egypt is told. The four youngest in attendance will each ask one of the four questions as part of the Seder, which are preceded by the question “Why is this night different from all other nights?”

The four Questions, which follow, are “Why is it that on all other nights during the year we eat either bread or Matzah, but on this night we eat Matzah?” “Why is it that on all other nights we eat all kinds of vegetables, but on this night we eat bitter herbs?” “Why is it on all other nights we do not dip even once, but on this night we dip twice?” “Why is it that on all other nights we eat either sitting or reclining, but on this night we eat in a reclining position?”

Participants usually consume four cups of wine, it is assumed by most that each one corresponds to each of the promises of redemption; “I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you from their slavery, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments. And I will take you to me for a people.” A cup of wine is left out for Elijah, and the front door left open in the hopes that he will join the family in their celebration.

This card represents the introduction of random chance into the Fool’s life, which, can hinder or help him. He finds that all the good things he’s done in life seem to be returning to him three fold, reinforcing the concept of “What goes around, comes around.”

Card Meaning:

This card usually represents luck, change, or the Karmic cycle, a turning point. This card also symbolizes movement of fate, unexpected developments, life cycles, possibilities, abundance, and approachability. Usually a sign of positive change, or the end of a bad situation, it can have negative connotations. This will depend on the tone of the reading in general and the reader’s intuition.

Poor becoming rich or vice versa, this card can represent a lesson to be learned about your Karma and objectivity. If the querent is on their way down the wheel then they have to face up to something and learn from that, until they do the wheel will keep finding a way to try to teach its lesson.

What exactly is Mercury retrograde? What does it mean when someone comments that we are in one when something goes wrong? How does this affect things around me? Apparently, Mercury retrograde is a time when the planet Mercury appears to be going backwards like an optical illusion.

To most astrologers, Mercury is the planet most associated with communication, logical and rational thinking. So the idea is when Mercury is going forward so is most conversations, when in retrograde (backwards) communication tends to be a bit distorted. Generally we have about 3 retrograde periods through out the year. In 2012, the first one started on March 12, 2012 and will last until April 4th.

To an astrologer Mercury will be retrograding in Pisces. My sources indicate that this means during this retrograde we will see a lot more of Pisces style of confrontation in order to deal with past issues. What does this mean exactly? Well it means plenty of duplicity, speaking one’s mind before thinking, and an opportunity to learn how to be open and honest while also being diplomatic.

Just be careful you don’t put your foot into your mouth during this particular retrograde. Mercury retrogrades are as one astrologer put it the Murphy’s Law of the astrology world. The reasons why you see some people yell in discussions ‘its Mercury retrograde isn’t it?’ is because while in retrograde things such as communication, travel, and other issues go wrong.

This is a period where computers, phone lines, and anything that generally involves communication, or even traveling goes a bit crazy. It’s been suggested that prior to Mercury going retrograde to back up your computer files, start new projects, and make any type of important decisions that are necessary.

Now there are cases or people rather who have been born during a Mercury retrograde. If you were born during a retrograde period you have a tendency of being misunderstood. Many times people who were born during a non retrograde period find the ones that are born at the time of a retrograde a bit backwards.

Yet when a retrograde happens in Mercury the same ‘backwards’ thinkers seem able to handle everything perfectly fine. In fact, most times they seem to be a bit more understandable and more capable of getting ideas across.

People born during non retrograde periods tend to be more willing to hear what it is that the retrograde born people are talking about. I would suggest getting an astrology reading to find a more in depth understanding of your personality and how this Mercury retrograde could affect you.

I still had questions so I took my research to two psychic astrologers on Psychicsforetell.com. I needed more insight from a professional astrologer to help me sort through all the information I had been gathering. I most of all wanted to find out how Mercury retrograde will affect everyone and if there were any tricks or suggestions in order to handle the effects.

Margie 7020 said that retrogrades in Mercury are the ‘astro clean up periods’. Giving a chance to finish up or handle old business, personal affairs, or anything else we’ve seemed to have started and then put aside. She said during a retrograde it is strongly advised to not move forward or make any type of finalizing decisions. Nevertheless, this time should be used to better organize existing areas of your life.

This is a time to clean up past issues so that when Mercury goes back to normal (in a forward motion) you can move forward successfully. Mercury retrograde isn’t something you should hide away from, but use to your advantage. Take the time to re-think, re-organize, and improve on existing qualities.

She also mentioned when things go wrong during a retrograde it’s the universe saying ‘hey pay attention to this because you’ve been putting it off lately and this is important’.

Shawna 7035 says that this is not a time to get married, or sign any important legal documents if possible. She mentions that during Mercury retrograde most people tend to miss fine details that are really important to the issues at hand.

Many issues that have been pushed off to the side will be shoved into the light during this retrograde sometimes in a very blunt not so nice way. Aries is a sign that is very straightforward and brutally honest at times. As Shawna said, Aries is looking for the spot light to call out many things that has or had been bothering it.

We should see a lot more people around the world bringing issues forward while in the retrograde. She also mentioned just as a side note that most people who are born during a retrograde have some past life issues that need to be taken care of in this life. I’m not sure exactly what she meant by that. To gain more insight I would suggest trying to get into contact with either her or another fully capable astrologer.

Insight into the retrograde has been an interesting and enlightening experience. I’ve already taken necessary steps in order to prepare myself for Mercury going retrograde. Hopefully the effect of this retrograde isn’t harsh on any of us. Moreover, remember use the many retrogrades to your advantage to help improve on existing situations by growing and maintaining organization within your own lives.

About a year ago, I was having some financial problems. It occurred to me at the time that although I had done roughly 18 years of work on clearing out past lives, I needed to specifically focus on clearing out this problem. It seemed obvious to me that unless I focused on this problem it wasn’t going to go away.

I wasn’t bringing in enough money to pay all my bills. I had taken out payday loans, but that was not a long term solution. The loan payments were eating into my paycheck. I could see this was not a good way to go and in the long run, unless I did something drastic, things were just going to get worse.

I began by assuming that whatever was causing me to have financial problems was inside of me. I figured this was a pretty safe assumption to make. This whole process became a review of the principles of metaphysics and a testing of how it all works. The universe operates through the law of cause and effect; the causes being the thoughts we habitually think – things like beliefs and so on that we have acquired over the millennia and countless past lives; and the effects being the conditions, we experience in our outward reality.

I started affirming, “I am releasing and healing everything within me that is causing me to have financial problems.” After doing this for a while, naturally, things started to come up. I specifically chose this affirmation to “stir the pot” so to speak. I wanted all the things that were causing my financial problems to come up because I was so tired of having to go through this over and over again, and I knew from experience that the only way out was through: I had to dredge up all the stuff within me that was causing this problem and release and heal it.

One of the things that came up was that I had made a vow of poverty in a past life. I had been a monk in the 1400′s or so in the Pyrenees in France or Spain, somewhere in the mountains near the border of the two countries. While a vow of poverty seemed like a good idea at the time, and was probably appropriate for someone who was about to become a monk, this vow had remained in my consciousness and was clearly causing me to have financial problems in my present life.

When I became aware of this vow, I began affirming: “I hereby release any and all vows of poverty I have made in previous lives.” I affirmed this over and over again until I was pretty sure I had truly released the vow of poverty. I can’t remember everything else that came up, but I do remember one memory from my childhood in my present life. I was swimming with my mother. I was pretty young. I was not quite able to swim yet.

Apparently, my mother, thinking she was helping me, separated me from her while I was in the water, so that I would have to swim in order to float. However, I was not quite able to, and I started going under. The result was the opposite of what she was hoping for. I developed a fear of water and a fear of drowning. This happened in a matter of seconds.
Of course, I learned to swim eventually – I even became a lifeguard for one season when I was 18.

Nevertheless, this subconscious fear of drowning was still there in the back of my mind. Moreover, in financial terms, I was afraid that I could not make it on my own. That’s actually pretty huge. If you think, subconsciously, that there is no way you can make it on your own, that’s really a bad place to be operating from. It means that no matter what you do, you can’t make it. I definitely had misgivings about being able to make it on my own.

Despite this fear of drowning being a difficult or unpleasant memory to recall, it’s clear to me that in the end it’s really a good thing I was able to allow it to surface and release it. My affirmation became “I am releasing and healing all fear of drowning. I am releasing and healing all beliefs that I cannot make it on my own.”

The whole process I am describing to you took about a year to go through. I kept affirming, “I am releasing and healing everything within me that is causing me to have financial problems” and things along those lines. At some point, I also became aware that in addition to releasing the causes of our problems, we have to provide our subconscious mind with a clear idea of the goals we desire. I said to myself, “I now have more money than I know what to do with. My monthly income exceeds my expenses. I am wealthy beyond my wildest dreams.” and things like that, so that I began creating the causes of wealth within myself.

I realized, later on in the process that in addition to doing affirmations to release and heal the causes of our problems, and affirming what we want, we also have to do something for others. I don’t know how to say that exactly, but what I asked myself was “What can I do for others that is of immense value to them?” The point is that in order to receive something of great value, such as a large sum of money, you have to give something of equivalent value to others. Again, this is the law of cause and effect in operation.

I don’t think you have to worry about who you give to or what or how much. I just think it should be from your heart, it should be genuine, it should be something you want to do, and it should be spontaneous. So how did this come to me? Well, over a long period of time I began to realize that I was fairly bitter and resentful in a lot of ways (again I did affirmations to release and heal those things); and it occurred to me that rather than being a “taker”, I should focus more on giving without expectation of anything in return.

Not because by doing that good things will come to me, although they probably
Will; it just seemed to me that that is what I should do, and somehow in the process the bitterness and resentment will go away. I wasn’t exactly sure how to do the “giving” part, but I realized much later that over the summer I had sent quite a bit of Reiki to various people, and that constituted the “giving.” So how did all of this work out? With only a few days left in the year, all of a sudden I got emails from my relatives regarding some property we owned. It seemed the people who lived next door wanted to buy this land all of a sudden.

The deal happened quickly and all of a sudden, my financial situation turned around.
I paid off my mortgage, which freed up almost $350 a month. I paid off all the payday loans. I had money to buy a new laptop and a new camera. I loaned out several thousand dollars to a few friends. I bought new tires and paid for the 30,000 mile servicing on my girlfriend’s car. I had enough money that I actually forgot to pick up my paycheck at work about two weeks ago. So yes, things definitely have changed for the better. I am not really worried about money anymore.

I asked one of Foretell’s psychics why my financial situation turned around so quickly. DO: Have some dignity. If you don’t feel comfortable with a request from your partner, say so! If you feel completely comfortable, well, then you’re on the right track!

For the eyes: Apply an eye shadow primer to the lids all the way up to the brow bone and underneath the eye, (I used “Painterly” paint pot from MAC). This will not only prime the area and make your colors show truer, but it will also brighten the eye area.

Take your lightest shade, (“Collie” cream shadow from Buxom) this will be your highlighter, and apply it from lash line to brow bone, and on the inner corners of your eyes.

Take your gold shade, (“Baked” from Urban Decay) and sweep it in a windshield wiper motion into your crease. If your eyes do not have a crease, just place this where you’d like the illusion of one, and sweep it onto the inner third of the eyelid as well. Next, Take a shimmering light green shade, (Almay intense I-Color trio for greens 004) and add it to the outer third of your eye lid, just on the outer corners and blend inward.

Apply a basic black eyeliner close to the lash line on the bottom lashes only. Take a white or peach liner pencil (“I get no Kick” eye kohl from MAC) and line the lower water line on the inside (this will make your eyes appear larger). Then, apply a coat or two of your favorite mascara.

To the apples of your cheeks (the fullest, roundest part in the middle of your cheek), apply a golden pink blush (“Pleasantry” from MAC.) To the tops of your cheeks apply a shimmery highlighter (“Chez Chez Lame” from MAC), and to the hollows (where you see shadows when you suck in your cheeks) very lightly apply bronzer to define the shape of your cheekbones (“Bronze” from Hard Candy).

For the lips use a lip brush (for accuracy) and fill in (Buxom lip pencil in “scandal”) and that will complete this natural, yet polished look.

This ethereal look is suitable for any time of day, and will look especially lovely for a date or event.

Celebrated on February 14 every year, Saint Valentine’s Day or Valentine’s Day is the traditional day on which lovers convey their love to each other by sending Valentine’s cards, sometimes even anonymously. The most common feature of Valentines Day these days is the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of “valentines”.

Popular Valentine symbols of modern times include the heart-shaped outline and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, mass produced greeting cards have largely replaced handwritten notes. It is believed that nearly one billion Valentines Day cards are sent each year worldwide, making it only the second largest card-sending holiday next to Christmas. Women are believed to purchase approximately 85 percent of all “valentines.”

Stories of many Valentines
Opinions differ about who St Valentine was. Early martyrologies mention at least three St Valentines under the date of 14 February. One is a priest at Rome, another a Bishop of Interamna (now Terni in Italy) and the other lived and died in Africa. Many, however, are of the opinion that the first two are the same person.

It is, however, widely believed that Valentine’s Day has perhaps originated from the ancient Roman feast of Lupercalia. A festival was held on February 15 in honor of one of their gods Lupercus, who was called upon by the Romans to ward off the threats of those fierce wolves that roamed the adjacent forests.

On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia, a love lottery was organized in which the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man then drew a slip and the girl whose name he picked up was to be his sweetheart for the year.

The holiday subsequently became Valentine’s Day after a priest named Valentine. At that time when Christianity was still a new religion, Valentine was a priest in Rome. The then Emperor Claudius II, had issued an order forbidding the Roman soldiers to marry or become engaged. The emperor believed that once they got married, his soldiers would want to stay home rather than fight his wars.

Valentine defied the Emperor’s decree and secretly married the young couples. He was finally arrested, imprisoned, and beheaded on February 14, the eve of Lupercalia. Valentine was posthumously named a saint. As Christianity grew stronger in Rome, the priests moved the Lupercalia or spring holiday from February 15 to February 14, i.e., Valentine’s Day. Since then the holiday began honoring Saint Valentine instead of Lupercus.

“From your Valentine”
According to another story, Valentine was one of the early Christians who was seized and dragged before the Prefect of Rome and jailed for helping some Christian martyrs. He cured the jailor’s daughter of blindness while in jail. When the emperor learned of this miracle he ordered the beheading of Valentine. Valentine is said to have sent the jailor’s daughter a farewell message signed, “From your Valentine”.

In 1969, as part of a larger effort to reduce the number of saint days of purely legendary origin, the Church removed St. Valentine’s Day as an official holiday from its calendar. At present, February 14 is dedicated only to Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius.

In my private practice for over 14 years no matter what my clients have come to see me about, there has always been an issue about a better relationship.

Here are 7 of the most common misconceptions my clients have related to me about having a better relationship. These misconceptions are followed by my perspective on each one of them.

Myth 1: I have to love everything about my partner.

Reality Check 1: You were born pure and pristine. You then learnt behaviors from your parents, teacher, coaches, church etc. (who did their best to teach you about a better relationship). These behaviors have become the backbone for your way of living and having a better relationship.

Perhaps a common behavior that irritates having a better relationship would be leaving the toilet seat up after use. This is merely a behavior and not the essence of the person. However, when you may consider this behavior to be the person, this destroys the concept of a better relationship, creating all kinds of conflict in your need for a better relationship.

Myth 2: Love means that I can fix your partner.

Reality Check 2: You met your partner because of some special quality or charteristic that you admired. You need to accept and allow that quality to flourish in order to allow you and your partner to grow into a better relationship.

You may be unaware that you do not even like yourself. Yet by allowing your partner to grow and expand, you will experience the quality of your partner and the beauty within you, as you begin to enjoy a better relationship.

Myth 3: I am supposed to give up the things I like in order to be in a better relationship.

Reality Check 3: Giving up the things you like to be in a better relationship is like take a knife and cutting away a part of yourself. Your better relationship is based on the uniqueness of you and your partner.

When you give up your uniqueness you rob yourself of a better relationship, your passion and your partner of your creativity.

Myth 4: I will be rescued by a knight in shining armor.

Reality Check 4: You may have been conditioned to live your life expecting someone to take care of you. What happens if that person becomes ill, and is no longer able to take care of you?

Your responsibility in creating a better relationship, is to bring your passion to the table of your relationship. Some days you will be the knight in shining armour and another day your partner will be the knight in shining armour of a better relationship.

You will each get a chance to shine like star in a better relationship because of your strengths and weaknesses.

Myth 5: It costs a lot to be in a relationship.

Reality Check 5: In a material context, a better relationship can be expensive if you think that love is based on the bigger house, car or boat. Although some of these material assets are necessary, they should not be at the expense of creating a better relationship.

Love is creating a better relationship by building a relationship that is based on the simple things in life, like walking and holding hands, going on a picnic (just the two of you), or sharing an ice cream.

Love in a better relationship is not about what you show on the outside but what you express in you heart. Love is not about money or materialism, love just is.

Myth 6: Love in a relationship is or is not a feeling.

Reality Check 6: It is not what you say, it is what you do. You can say, “I love you” which may be merely words and no feelings (action). Love is the action of doing.

If you make a cup of tea for yourself, (the water is boiled), make a cup of tea for your partner. Whether your partner wants the tea or not is irrelevant, it is the thought that counts and the action that cements a better relationship.

Myth 7: I don’t have to work at my relationship.

Reality Check 7: As a child, you learned to creep before you walked. Then you learned the letters of the alphabet. In order to write, you had to learn how to put those letters together to make words and sentences. These sentences then become the way in which you communicated.

When you and your partner stop communicating after learning how to use the letters of the alphabet in sentences, it’s like 2 tape recorders talking to each other – Nobody is at home to enjoy a better relationship.

In summary:

1. Your partner’s behavior in a better relationship is not your partner’s true essence.
2. There is no need to have a clone of yourself. A better relationship requires some variety.
3. Giving up of your uniqueness to be in a better relationship is like throwing out the baby with the bath water.
4. In a better relationship, there are no superior partners, just equal partners.
5. Love in creating a better relationship is not about money and the material assets (although there are important) but the simple things in life.
6. Love in a better relationship is active not passive.
7. Lack of communication crushes your desire for a better relationship.

1. Nudity – Being naked is an obvious symbol of being exposed or being vulnerable in public. If you see someone else naked in your dream, it means that you’ve discovered the “naked truth” about someone or something.

2. Falling – Falling, or flying, has to do with freedom and weightlessness. If you are falling in your dreams and you are unafraid, then it means you’re going to overcome the troubles in your life with ease. If you are afraid, then it means you are feeling overwhelmed.

3. Dying – Death, like in the Tarot, does not mean the end of all things. Instead, it means rebirth, the end of one thing and the beginning of another. Though the symbol is of the water bearer, Aquarius is an air sign. Always on the cutting edge of what is new and now, the Aquarius woman has a look that’s up to date and on trend at all times. Aquarius women can be serious, but they also can joy themselves with something fun.

Aquarians love a natural look but also love shimmer, and like to indulge in glittery or pearlescent shades. Aquarius women will often have mysterious eyes, and wide set, oval faces. Their handsome features include clear, bright complexion. Color wise, purple resonates with Aquarius women due to their noble features, so I’m going to build a look around that.

Applying make up to your face is like an artist applying a medium to a canvas, make sure your skin is clean, and moisturized. You may wish to use a primer, and then whatever liquid or mineral foundation you use regularly, make sure to set everything with powder once applied, this will keep your make up in place longer.

Apply an eye shadow primer to the lids all the way up to the brow bone and underneath the eye (I used urban decay’s “Primer Potion”). This will keep your colors on longer, make them show up better and brighten the eye area.

Take your lightest shade, (“Digit” from MAC) this will be your highlighter, and apply it from lash line to brow bone, and on the inner corners of your eyes.

Take the medium shade, (“Diva Down” from L’Oreal) and sweep on the inner ½ of your crease. If your eyes do not have a crease, just place this where you’d like the illusion of one. Now take the purple, (“No. 92” from Make up Forever) and add it to the outer half of your eye lid, and blend inward.

Don’t forget to blend your colors together so they appear to be a seamless gradient or wash of color as opposed to blocks or stripes. Once your eye shadow is blended to your liking, apply a black liquid liner eyeliner close to the top lash line.

Take a purple liner pencil (“Amethyst” automatic eyeliner from Mary Kay) and line the lower lash line on the water line. Then, apply a coat or two of curling mascara. I’ve used Supercurl Curling Mascara from urban Decay.

Using Cover Girls blush trio #240 in “Sophisticated Sable” apply the medium shade to the apples of your cheeks (the fullest, roundest part in the middle of your cheek). To the tops of your cheeks apply the shimmery highlighter and to the hollows (where you see shadows when you suck in your cheeks) very lightly apply the darkest blush to define the shape of your cheekbones.

Using a lip brush, for accuracy fill in your lips (“Hera #722” NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil) top with (“Like Venus” from MAC) lip gloss and this look is complete.

What is a lucid dream? Any dream where one becomes aware that they are dreaming is a lucid dream. Once the dreamer has realized they are in fact dreaming they may be able to control or manipulate their surroundings, rather than waking up from the dream.

Lucid dreams can be fantastical or reality based, they are usually quite vivid. A lucid dream can come on gradually as one realizes they are in a dream as it takes place, or when a dreamer lapses instantly from waking to dream state while conscious.

This is something that may happen to most people on occasion, or something one may seek out to participate in on purpose. There are many techniques in order to learn to purposely lucid dream. Working on the ability to recall one’s dreams is usually a step in the right directions.

One may want to start a dream journal, immediately after waking up one should document everything they can remember. This helps because recognizing the patterns of one’s dreams can help in recognizing them as such, and in turn being able to control the dream and surroundings.

Another way to figure out if one is dreaming while still within their dream is to do a “reality test.” Text can be very telling, look at some text from a book or website, and look away, when you look at it again, see if it has changed or moved, the same can be done with the time on a digital clock or watch.

Lucid dreaming is perfectly natural, and does not involve any spells, or “dark arts.”
There is nothing “occult” about lucid dreams; they are simply a part of the sleep cycle and dreams. The next time you think you might be in a dream, really take a look around and see if you are!

This time of year everyone starts making promises and resolutions, that try their best, they may never keep or live up to. This disappointment follows them throughout the year and causes resolutions that are even more grandiose and promises to the next year.

Stop it! Stop driving yourself crazy. First of all, resolutions aren’t set in stone, you don’t have to do whatever you said you were going to do, sometimes life, work or family can get in the way of you keeping your resolutions.

Secondly, when you think about it, you’re setting yourself up to fail by imposing added stress on yourself throughout the year. Here’s what you can do to set and accomplish goals this year.

Start small! Make small, gradual changes towards your end goal, if you try doing everything all at once, you’re going to become overwhelmed and give up.

Leave room to fail. Okay, so, you probably skipped step one didn’t you? Well, now we’re braced for failure, but you don’t have to let this ruin your entire goal. If you stop now, then you’ve really failed. There are a lot of bumps in the road and false starts to any big goal, just keep with it, continue to get back up and dust yourself off and start again.

Tell people about your goals. This will make it harder to weasel out of them, or justify not going to the gym or whatever the goal is, if you tell other people about what you’re doing, you’ll be too worried about disappointing them to blow off your duties.

If all else fails, ask for help! You have people in your life who care about you, and want you to succeed. Ask someone to help you in your efforts and you’ll be surprised by how a little encouragement or company will help you thrive.

Practicality is the hallmark of Capricorns; one thing seemed to be a recurring theme when I researched this topic: Earth signs, earth tones, no muss, and no fuss. While I am all for practicality and earth tones that doesn’t mean it has to be boring!

Capricorns tend to opt for a classic look, over something flashy and trendy (this is where I diverge from my sign.) for all you true Capricorns I’m going to do a sparkly neutral look that could easily transition from work to evening with a little added eyeliner and mascara.

Physically, Capricorns are known for having clear skin, narrow foreheads, wide smiles, deep-set eyes, dark hair, and prominent cheek bones. David Bowie and Annie Lennox are two notable Capricorns. Red lips with black or grey eye shadow will always be acceptable, but let’s do something different.

Start out with your regular foundation routine. For me, this is moisturizer, primer, then concealer and finally mineral powder. However if it’s the winter, or if you have an uneven skin tone, by all means use a good quality medium coverage liquid foundation.

Next up, eyes: Apply an eye shadow primer to the lids all the way up to the brow bone and underneath the eye (I used “Painterly” paint pot from MAC). This will not only prime the area and make your colors show truer, but it will also brighten the eye area.

Take your lightest shade, (“Chill” from MAC) this will be your highlighter, and apply it from lash line to brow bone, and on the inner corners of your eyes.

Take the medium shade, (“Sin” from Urban Decay) and sweep it in a windshield wiper motion into your crease. If your eyes do not have a crease, just place this where you’d like the illusion of one. Next, take your gold shade, (“Baked” from Urban Decay) and add it to the outer third of your eye lid, just on the outer corners and blend inward, darken the very outer corner with a warm brown color, (“Roach” from Urban Decay)

Don’t forget to blend your colors together so they appear to be a seamless gradient or wash of color as opposed to blocks or stripes. Once your eye shadow is blended to your liking, apply a basic black eyeliner close to the lash line.

Take a white or peach liner pencil (“I get no Kick” eye kohl from MAC) and line the lower lash line on the inside (this will make your eyes appear larger). Then, apply a coat or two of your favorite mascara. In the face chart, all the brands and colors are listed for easy reference.

To the apples of your cheeks (the fullest, roundest part in the middle of your cheek), apply a golden pink blush (“Pleasantry” from MAC.) To the tops of your cheeks apply a shimmery highlighter (“Chez Chez Lame” from MAC), and to the hollows (where you see shadows when you suck in your cheeks) very lightly apply bronzer to define the shape of your cheekbones (“Aztec” from RawColor).

For the lips, use a lip brush (for accuracy) and fill in (“23”rouge artist intense from Make Up Forever) top with (“Claire” from Buxom) lip gloss and you’re ready to go!

If you want to make this more of an evening look, apply a black shadow to the outer 1/3 of your eyes, and blend generously, finishing with a thick cat’s eye sweep of eye liner. Apply false lashes if you are going for an event or party, add a shade of lipstick one to two shades darker and you’re ready for a night out on the town.

As the New Year approaches, it signals the feeling of turning over a new leaf, ensuring the coming year will be better than the last, and making a fresh start.

The key to keeping up with your resolutions is to keep them reasonable. Someone who has never set foot in a gym isn’t going to start going 5 times a week, every week. Just as this is a time to make new commitments about your physical health, it’s also a great time to consider your spiritual health.

Perhaps you want to try meditation, don’t be surprised if initially you have some trouble clearing your mind of ephemera. Practice will only help. Keep at it, and you’ll find over time it will become easier for you to become calm and clear.

Keeping your inner self healthy is going to help you in many other aspects of your life, especially if you want to improve your physical health. For example, working out isn’t as bad in reality as one can make it out to be. Sometimes you can talk yourself out of doing something before you’ve even had the chance to try.

By keeping yourself positive, and centered you’ll find that doing those chores and tasks that you once talked yourself out of, have now become effortless. Setting a schedule will also help, even if you don’t stick to it 100%, having a rough outline of your goals for the day, week, or month, will help keep those tasks off your mind because they have an allotted place and time.

Above all, be sure to meditate where you’re going to be comfortable and uninterrupted, even if you’re struggling with meditation itself, you’ll still get to relax in peace and quiet, while taking a respite from your day.
